A groundbreaking ceremony was held Tuesday at JEB Little Creek-Fort Story for a new 41,000 sqft child development center that will serve up to 300 children (infant, pre-toddler, toddler, and preschool) and five playgrounds.
Construction will start in February and is expected to finish in 2028.
Federal agencies resumed wage garnishment for defaulted student loans on Jan.
7 after pandemic relief ended — about 1,000 defaulted borrowers, including those in Hampton Roads, received 30-day notices to check their loan status and explore options like income-driven plans or forbearance.

Virginia Beach officials reported that their Homeless Services Division helped over 470 households avoid homelessness in 2024 — preventing eviction for 354 families and connecting 118 families to stable housing.
The program provided rental assistance and support services to vulnerable households.
