- ➤ A new poll shows that tolls & transportation charges are the most hated taxes in Virginia, ahead of property and car taxes. With many toll rates set to rise around Hampton Roads, over 3,000 Virginians voiced their concerns about these growing costs. WTKR
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Hampton Roads hospitals now require patients with flu-like symptoms to wear masks and notify staff when they arrive, Riverside Health said. The new rule aims to reduce spread and reserve emergency rooms for severe cases. WTKR
- ➤ Chesapeake Regional Healthcare held a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Thursday, Jan. 8 for its new 11,200-sqft Behavioral Health Inpatient Unit, which offers 20 private rooms to expand mental health services; local and state leaders attended as the facility brings care closer to home. 13News Now
- ➤ Since 1975, the Suffolk Sickle Cell Foundation has supported patients in Hampton Roads by providing assistance with bills + transportation and phone needs while offering food support; the nonprofit plans to expand its scholarship program and hire a dedicated educator to boost local awareness of sickle cell disease. 13News Now
