Dominion Energy warns that strong weekend winds may cause more power outages in Hampton Roads and the Outer Banks after nearly 2,000 customers lost power to ice last weekend — crews will restore power first to hospitals and emergency services, then to affected neighborhoods.

The Virginia Beach Fire Department is providing free smoke alarm installations through its Operation Smoke Alarm program (appointment only) to help reduce winter fire risks.

Residents can schedule the service to protect their homes as colder weather increases the chance of fires.
