CRIME NEWS

  • Authorities issued a Critically Missing Adult Alert for Liza Ann Eckhardt, 58, last heard from Tuesday at 3 p.m. at her home on Mill Crossing Drive and later seen around 7:20 p.m. at Back Bay National Wildlife Refuge — she may be driving a gray 2007 Honda Accord with a VA plate L1ZA and anyone with information is urged to call VBPD Missing Persons Detective at 757-385-4101.  13News Now

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Virginia Beach City Public Schools will vote on three proposals on April 8 that would change costs for after-school activities by raising coach pay 10%—with extra awards for postseason teams—and increasing ticket prices for sports and club events. The changes are designed to cover a pay rise estimated at $300,000, ticket price hikes expected to generate about $369,000, and expanded ticket sales projected to add $50,000 before the new costs take effect in the 2025-2026 school year.  13News Now

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Red Wing Park will reopen temporarily this month for the Cherry Blossom Festival even though work on a road and playground project continues. The festival runs from March 29 through April 5 — the park will close again mid-April to finish the $1.5 million improvements.  The Virginian-Pilot
  • Virginia Beach leaders are considering raising the restaurant meal tax from 5.5 percent to 6 percent if approved — the change will take effect on July 1. The increase will boost the overall dining tax to 12 percent and fund major city projects while officials host two public hearings for resident input.  WTKR
  • Congresswoman Jen Kiggans (a Virginia Beach lawmaker) introduced a bill on Tuesday to allow tax-exempt status for donations meant to support fallen officers (Cameron Girvin and Christopher Reese) and their families. The measure, supported by the Virginia Beach Police Foundation and several cosponsors, will help protect the financial support provided to the widows of the officers.  WAVY

  • March 26th—in a high school softball game, No. 1 Hickory blanked No. 4 Nansemond-Suffolk 5—0 as Tegan Gabrielse pitched a complete game shutout while Courtney Wheeler hit a three-run home run to lead her team.  The Virginian-Pilot
  • ODU guard Robert Davis Jr.—who ranks sixth in NCAA 3-pointers and averaged 15.6 points this season—announced on X that he will return next season and was named to the CSC Academic All-District Team with teammate Sean Durugordon. Virginia Wesleyan’s softball team swept Randolph with two no-hitters by Lauren Bible and Emma Adams, and additional regional updates detailed college football kickoff times, baseball scores, and athlete honors.  Daily Press
