- ➤ The Virginia Beach community will gather tomorrow at Baylake United Methodist Church for a 5K Fun Run/Walk honoring Maylea Beasley, an 18-year-old local student killed nearly five years ago in an auto-pedestrian crash. Check-in is at 8 a.m. — the race starts at 9:30 a.m. — and the event will raise funds for local scholarships with a $40 registration fee. WAVY
- ➤ Young Life Capernaum offers a safe program for youth and a Friends for Life segment that helps young adults with disabilities build friendships and adjust when state services end at age 22. The volunteer-run program provides scholarships and social opportunities—ensuring participants feel included as they prepare for adulthood. WAVY
ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ A fire broke out early Thursday morning at a two-story apartment complex on Bantry Lane in Bayside when an unattended candle ignited the building, displacing eight residents and prompting fire crews to control the blaze by 1:16 a.m.—no injuries were reported. WTKR
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Food trucks from The Great Food Truck Race will come to Virginia Beach on Saturday at 11 a.m. at 31st Street Park (part of the 15th Annual East Coast She-Crab Soup Classic) where chef Tyler Florence will help judge as ten local restaurants compete with their she-crab soup recipes. Guests can taste soups and vote for the People’s Choice Awards as the winner will receive a cookware bundle worth $1,200. 13News Now

- ➤ Church officials confirmed that a settlement was reached with the City of Virginia Beach after a March mediation session resolved a land dispute over a small parcel in front of Gathering at Scott Memorial United Methodist Church on First Colonial Road, with undisclosed compensation provided to the church. Pastor Devon Blair said the church will consider using the funds to repair the parking lot and support its ministry. WTKR
