On Jan. 24, VBPD officers in the third precinct stopped a car near Lake Edward and when the driver fled and jumped into freezing water they rescued him using a personal floatation device—he was treated for exposure at the hospital before being arrested for two outstanding warrants.

Virginia Beach City Public Schools has begun using the Zum bus tracking app to give parents real-time alerts and improve bus routes.

The app—available for iPhone and Android—will track school buses and adjust routes during delays, and a full rollout is planned for the next school year.
