  • Virginia Beach Police reported a surge in car break-ins and thefts—34 property destruction incidents and 14 vehicle thefts occurred near Bonney Road in the 3rd Precinct between April 8th and 9th—and urged residents to secure valuables and contact the Detective Bureau with video evidence.  WAVY
  • Virginia Beach police reported a rise in car thefts involving smashed windows along Bonney Road on April 8 and 9 — they advise residents to keep valuables out of sight and to register security cameras to help gather evidence.  13News Now
  • Virginia Beach police pulled over Johnny Bernard Sharp on January 24 for license plate issues and discovered he was wanted for a probation violation, so he ran by jumping into the icy waters of Lake Edward near Newtown Road—body camera footage shows officers rescuing him with a float device, cutting his shirt to reduce hypothermia, and later taking him to the hospital and jail.  WTKR

  • Kellam High School hosted a National Youth Symposium on Friday morning where leaders shared their career journeys and advice on leadership, empowerment and mental health.   • Officials halted the Oceanfront beach replenishment project two weeks ago over concerns that the sand's fine grain may reduce its durability—samples from the Atlantic are being tested to determine if the issue is localized before work resumes with city partners.  13News Now

  • Traditional bull riding returns to the Oceanfront on 3rd street for the third annual Bulls and Barrels Beach Rodeo starting today and continuing tomorrow—ticketed events will showcase riders competing for $12,000 and gold buckles while a free festival offers other activities.  WAVY
  • On April 5th at New Quarter Park, runners in the Queens Lake 5K faced a swarm of no-see-ums that made them uncomfortable at the 9 a.m. start (9 a.m.).
