  • A new Amazon delivery station opened in Virginia Beach yesterday with state and local officials attending a ribbon-cutting ceremony (it is located at 2201 Harpers Road) inside a 200,000-square-foot facility. The site is set to create 600 direct and indirect jobs and speed up deliveries for customers across Hampton Roads.  WAVY

CRIME NEWS

  • Virginia Beach police arrested 53 people for nearly 200 criminal charges and confiscated 28 guns from teens and young adults who brought firearms to Oceanfront during Spring Break weekend while officers responded to several shots fired including a Pacific Avenue shooting that left a victim injured but not in a life-threatening manner.  WTKR
  • A Virginia Beach family is asking for help finding the driver who hit 47-year-old Paul Smith while he rode his bike at the Croatan Road and General Booth Boulevard intersection last Saturday—Smith is in the hospital with a concussion, broken ribs, and a broken collarbone as police investigate the hit-and-run.  WAVY

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Economists and local business leaders warned that ongoing tariff discussions are creating uncertainty for the Hampton Roads economy and could lead to shortages on store shelves and higher consumer prices. Dr. Bob McNab of Old Dominion University said reduced imports may affect port activity and cost tens of thousands of jobs while potential tariff relief is still awaited.  WTKR
