  • Soup Love will open a new store in Hilltop North Shopping Center after leasing a retail space that is 1,020 feet long as its third local location. The business offers 20 types of soup made from scratch including Brunswick stew, chicken & dumplings, chicken noodle soup and Matzoh ball soup.  13News Now

CULTURE NEWS

  • On May 17, the Rising Sun Pow Wow will be held at Mount Trashmore Park from 11 a.m. until 6 p.m. The free event will feature live music, drumming, storytelling and Native American cultural displays—attendees are encouraged to bring chairs due to limited seating.  13News Now

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Virginia Beach School Board voted 6 — 5 to continue the suspension of DEI initiatives at Tuesday’s meeting after a previous tie on May 6. The board will vote on proposed changes to the school compass on May 27 while community members expressed mixed opinions on the issue.  13News Now

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Virginia Beach City Council discussed DEI initiatives in local schools Tuesday night while community members testified for over four hours—students, parents and teachers voiced their opinions. The council voted 5—6, with five members urging a pause in the suspension and six members choosing to continue it.  WTKR
  • The tide gate at Lake Windsor in Windsor Woods is now complete and is set to help control flooding during heavy storms. City officials say sensors will be installed in the next two weeks—allowing the gate to close automatically when water levels rise.  WTKR
