Good morning, Virginia Beach. Here's your local news at a glance for Friday, the 23rd of May.

COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Hampton Roads Pride is preparing for next month's events amid a $100K funding shortfall that will reduce scholarships and alter plans for major festivals on June 21 at Town Point Park in Norfolk and June 22 at the Virginia Beach oceanfront. President Jeff Ryder said new sponsors are stepping in to help after several back out due to market fluctuations and DEI regulations—changes that may lead to fewer awards than last year's $35K scholarship program.  WTKR

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Residents living along Indian River Road have asked for extra protection after several crashes on a sharp curve damaged nearby homes and vehicles — city crews plan to replace warning arrow signs though no guardrails have been scheduled.  WTKR

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Navy has asked landowners near Naval Support Activity Hampton Roads Northwest Annex for permission to test their drinking water wells for PFAS contamination—an effort tied to its ongoing investigation into the use of firefighting foams. The testing is free for homeowners who participate in this environmental review.  13News Now
  • The city continues construction on South Plaza Trail to improve storm drainage in Windsor Woods and S.
