- ➤ A tree fell on Elbow Rd. near the Chesapeake and closed the road in both directions — officials have not given an ETA for reopening. WAVY
- ➤ Preliminary data from Virginia State Police shows that seven people died in Memorial Day weekend crashes in counties including Virginia Beach+ a hit-and-run fatality in Bedford County is still under investigation as troopers issued over 3,300 speeding citations and over 1,500 reckless driving citations. - ➤ Two women were arrested Tuesday for making a straw purchase of a firearm later used in a May 14 shooting; 50-year-old Christine Howell is charged with lying on a firearms consent form and 47-year-old Rahsheda Scott with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. WAVY

- ➤ A new report from the Virginia Institute of Marine Science and Maryland Department of Natural Resources shows Chesapeake Bay’s blue crab population is estimated at 238 million for 2025—the second-lowest count in recent years. Chesapeake Bay Foundation executive director Chris Moore called the decline extremely distressing and urged Virginia to reduce its blue crab harvest to protect the ecosystem. WTKR
