  • Virginia Beach Oceanfront will host the second annual Point Break Festival this weekend with doors opening at noon and live music starting at 1 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday—over 20 bands including Stick Figure and Slightly Stoopid will perform while local food and craft vendors serve attendees, and tickets remain available.  13News Now

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Sentara Health announced Monday that it has partnered with Virginia Wesleyan University to launch a new college of health sciences—Sentara College of Health Sciences—following the recent suspension of its degree programs; details of the partnership are currently being developed.  WTKR

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Norfolk-based USS Gerald R. Ford Carrier Strike Group—set to deploy to Europe next week—will operate near the Middle East, adding a third aircraft carrier close to the conflict between Israel and Iran.  WTKR
  • Today, Virginia Beach Correctional Center brought back its Paint Crew, a team of inmates who work from 5 p.m. to 1 a.m. under the supervision of Master Deputy II Red Nabong to improve the jail’s look and save taxpayer dollars + commercial painters normally charge about $25 per hour.  WAVY
