Officials said a 49-year-old inmate, Michael Margulies, died by suicide during a routine cell check on Wednesday at about 5:40 p.m. at the Virginia Beach Correctional Center — he was scheduled for release on July 21 after serving a one-year six-month sentence and was taken to Sentara Princess Anne Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 7:18 p.m. while authorities investigate the incident.
