- ➤ Owl Creek Landing opened with its Nautilus Lookout Tower on June 27 near the Aquarium, featuring a 65-foot steel tower and a nearly half-mile treetop walkway. The site will add the longest stainless-steel slide in the country by the end of July—most of the slide is enclosed to keep riders safe. WTKR

- ➤ Texas man Marquis Grant was arrested in Virginia Beach after a domestic dispute at Twin Canal Village on Keelboat Circle led him to chase a woman with a knife and allegedly set her apartment on fire, which reportedly killed her cat—he faces charges of arson, animal cruelty, and attempted malicious wounding. 13News Now

- ➤ Virginia Beach Public Schools will ban all cell phone use during class next school year to comply with the bell-to-bell law (effective July 1) after a notable rise in violations this year. The board said that families will receive updated guidelines in August while some parents worry that the stricter rule might remove a needed break for certain students. WTKR

- ➤ The City of Virginia Beach reported that a June 26 survey at Rudee Inlet found serious shoaling conditions for about 100 feet at the east end of the jetties (MLLW 6.5 feet) and urged mariners to use idle speed. WAVY
- ➤ Virginia Beach received $23.8 million from the Virginia Department of Transportation’s Smart Scale Program to extend the VB Trail and improve safe active transportation for the city. Phase 4 will add a 2.8-mile path connecting Birdneck Road to London Bridge Road near Naval Station Oceana — design is expected in 2027 with construction funding planned for 2031. 13News Now
