- ➤ A fire in the 4600 block of Truman Lane displaced one adult and three children on Sunday evening as firefighters controlled the blaze quickly and the Red Cross provided temporary housing—no injuries occurred and the fire was determined to be accidental. 13News Now

- ➤ The remnants of Tropical Storm Chantal brought rough surf and red flag warnings to Virginia Beach oceanfront on Sunday morning as lifeguards made 11 rescues. EMS President Tom Gill urged beachgoers to stay near lifeguards — officials noted that calls for help were below normal during the busy holiday weekend. WTKR

- ➤ Eight members of the Virginia Beach Fire Department’s Swiftwater Rescue Team deployed to Texas Sunday evening — they left from the Harry E. Diezel Fire Training Center to help with flood response operations under the Emergency Management Assistance Compact. Officials said that flash floods had caused at least 70 deaths in Kerr County and rescue crews used helicopters, drones and boats to search for missing persons. WTKR
