A woman was shot early Wednesday morning on North Great Neck Road and taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries — police continue investigating the incident.

A Chesapeake woman, Anyssa Wilson (23), was taken into custody on July 5 after VBPD found she falsely provided information to buy a firearm used in a separate crime, and she now faces charges for her role in the illegal purchase.

Officers with the Virginia Beach Police Department investigated an incident that occurred overnight on North Great Neck Road when a witness saw several police vehicles blocking the Renaissance Place Shopping Center parking lot (further details are pending).

On Tuesday, the Virginia Beach City Council allocated $3.2 million from the general fund to improve the Virginia Aquarium & Marine Science Center, part of an $8 million renovation where the city covers 40% of the cost following nearly a year of structural assessments.

The upgrades will extend exhibit life by eight to 10 years—city leaders plan to begin design work next fiscal year and seek extra state funding for the marine stranding program.
