  • Virginia Beach Animal Services rescued a deer that fell into a culvert Thursday morning with help from local agencies—Virginia Beach Fire Department and Animal Enforcement Unit coordinated with the Virginia Department of Wildlife Resources, Police Department, Dominion Energy and Mastec to return the animal safely to the wild.  WAVY
  • Virginia Beach Animal Services is asking the public for help after its shelter became completely full—offering $1 adoptions and seeking volunteers for foster homes. The shelter at 341 Birdneck Road is open every day from noon to 5 p.m.  WAVY

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • The eight-person Swiftwater Rescue Team from the Virginia Beach Fire Department reached Kerr County, Texas 24 hours after flash floods killed at least 120 people and left 173 missing— they are now methodically searching 60 miles of river for missing bodies amid continuing recovery efforts.  WAVY

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Virginia Beach City Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Donald Robertson said that federal funding cuts will have minimal impact on classrooms because carryover funds will cover 10—12 of the 15 affected specialist positions. Local superintendents will use the operating budget for the remaining positions and work with lawmakers to cover any gaps for the upcoming school year.  13News Now
