BUSINESS NEWS

  • Virginia Beach will soon have its second Trader Joe's at Town Center—occupying part of the former Bed Bath & Beyond space in Columbus Village. The new store has not set a grand opening date and will be the fourth Trader Joe's in the region—joining locations in Newport News and Williamsburg.  13News Now

CRIME NEWS

  • A 19-year-old Georgia man was sentenced to 275 days after VBPD arrested him at Oceanfront on April 5 when gunshots rang out during a gathering of about 200 to 300 teens, and he faced charges including reckless handling of a firearm and public intoxication—no one was hurt.  WTKR
  • Virginia State Police issued a senior alert for 83-year-old Marian Weavers Byers, who was last seen Monday at 2:35 p.m. on Weich Lane in Virginia Beach and may be wearing a yellow shirt and black jeans while driving a gold 2010 Ford Escape (Virginia tag GOD4MWB), and anyone with information should call Virginia Beach Police at 757-385-5000.  WAVY
  • Two men — John Round III from Chesapeake and Sridaharan Sangaran from Virginia Beach — face multiple charges linked to the death of Jamie Bills, who was found unresponsive on Princess Anne Road on March 1; Round is charged with involuntary manslaughter and assault and battery while Sangaran faces charges of malicious wounding, attempted malicious wounding, and assault and battery with hearings scheduled for today and July 25.  WTKR

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Virginia DMV worked with eight state, local and federal agencies to recover 18 stolen cars worth over $1M from the Port of Norfolk in June — the vehicles were headed to Africa and the Middle East.  WAVY
  • Liberty Military Housing CEO Philip Rizzo said he is taking military families' concerns seriously after residents at Wadsworth Shores reported flooding, long power outages, and pest infestations. He noted that although only 3.2% of work orders received low scores and two dozen families need immediate help, the company plans to use new Navy funds and sustainment dollars to make repairs—residents remain doubtful of long-term fixes.  13News Now
