- ➤ Sandbox VR will open its first Virginia Beach location on August 1 in the Atlantic Park entertainment district—where guests will enjoy full-body virtual reality gameplay in private rooms and receive personalized highlight videos after each session. - ➤ More sand will come to Croatan Beach next week as officials begin a renourishment project delayed by equipment issues and off-season quality concerns. - ➤ Virginia Beach’s Swiftwater Rescue Team returned home on Wednesday after 18 days of search work in Texas following deadly floods over the July 4 weekend, with Captain Max McQuarrie saying he saw the worst damage in his career. The team shared their stories of rescuing people and recovering cherished items — a baby quilt reunited with its owner — and now shows a Kerr County Strong sticker on their vehicles. 13News Now

- ➤ An AccuWeather report named Hampton Roads as one of the worst spots for mosquitoes as West Nile virus–positive insects spread due to hot temperatures and rain. Diamond Exterminators said they are spraying up to 50 local homes daily while local health officials recorded two West Nile cases (reminding residents to remove standing water that breeds mosquitoes).
