  • A recent report from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics shows Virginia's unemployment rate is now 3.5%—the highest since August 2021 and an increase from 2.9% in December. Economic professor Bob McNab said federal job cuts and a dropping labor force may be driving the rise, though the rate remains below the national 4.1%.  WTKR

HEALTH NEWS

  • Hampton Roads will face another scorching week as the Virginia Department of Health advises residents to drink water, wear sunscreen, and avoid outdoor activities during peak heat— a 2024 study reported nearly 2,900 heat-related emergency visits and one death. Residents are urged to check on vulnerable neighbors and stay indoors when possible to reduce the risk of heat-related illnesses.  13News Now
