Virginia Wesleyan University will be renamed Batten University on July 1, 2026 to honor the legacy of Frank and Jane Batten — the change comes as the school prepares to integrate Sentara College of Health Sciences and open a new Virginia Museum of Contemporary Art building on February 1. The move marks a significant step in the institution’s evolution while retaining its historic heritage.
