ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ Landyn Davis, a 10-year-old from Virginia Beach who was hit in the head by a stray bullet last February and spent 91 days in the hospital, started 5th grade on Monday — marking another step in his recovery. WTKR
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Virginia Beach police identified John Gregory Conner, a 40-year-old man who attempted a break-in at an off-duty Virginia State Police special agent's home in Bay Colony Sunday at 11:45 a.m.—he was fatally shot while the agent, who sustained moderate injuries, is on administrative leave pending investigation. 13News Now
- ➤ Virginia Beach police broke up a suspected cockfighting ring when they seized 213 birds on the 600 block of Princess Anne Road—citizen complaints about loose aggressive dogs led to surveillance that uncovered the operation, the homeowner surrendered the birds including 36 adult roosters, two injured birds were put down, and the remaining birds will be tested for mycoplasma as the investigation continues. 13News Now
- ➤ A Virginia Beach police officer was arrested on Friday night for a reported assault and public intoxication near Snowbird Court—Michaelena Scanniello, 31, has been placed on administrative duty with her police powers suspended while the case remains under investigation. WTKR

- ➤ Virginia Beach Public Schools have reopened for the 2025-2026 year, adding two security assistants at every elementary school and creating an Office of Security and Emergency Management—measures aimed at increasing safety while no cell phones are allowed during class except in emergencies. Staff healthcare changes will take effect in January and be discussed further at Wednesday’s school board meeting. WTKR
- ➤ Virginia Wesleyan University will rename itself Batten University in 2026 to honor Jane Batten—former athlete Devin Cowhey started a petition that has collected more than 3,800 signatures from current and former students to stop the change.
