Crews from Harmonia Contracting Corp are barricading 400 feet of the Virginia Beach Fishing Pier and repairing a damaged pile section that broke off from Hurricane Erin's powerful currents — the weakened structure had suffered from years of water damage.

Dozens of Virginia Beach residents attended a town hall Tuesday night to discuss the November referendum on the 10-1 voting system that may change how local leaders are elected.

Political figures noted that the meeting focused on fairness and resolving charter issues as voters will decide on the system soon.
