  • A new study by SmartAsset ranked San Jose as the safest big city and placed Virginia Beach at number 5 among the 50 largest cities—researchers used federal and local data to compare crime, overdose deaths and traffic accidents. The analysis helps families and workers understand the risks when choosing where to live.  13News Now

  • Virginia Beach has restricted swimming at all beaches because dangerous surf and high rip currents put swimmers at risk+ officials report that the Outer Banks are also facing high rip current dangers with lifeguard coverage from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and visitors are advised to stay in shallow water and check posted restrictions.  13News Now

  • The Virginia Beach City Council voted on Tuesday to rename Neptune’s Park at the Oceanfront after former Mayor Will Sessoms—marking a change for a landmark that has hosted community events since its 2005 opening—while Sessoms thanked the council and urged residents to keep the city strong.  WTKR
