BUSINESS NEWS

  • Rigoletto Italian Bakery — a local staple on Upton Drive in Virginia Beach — celebrates nearly 20 years of serving homemade Italian dishes and pastries while honoring its roots; the family business, founded by Gilda Di Domenico and now run by her daughter Jessie Guzman and her husband Victor, recovered from a 2022 fire to continue its legacy.  13News Now

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Leaders from the Filipino American Community Action Group said flyers for the November referendum on the 10-1 voting system—misusing their logo—do not mean the group endorses any side. Delegate Kelly Convirs-Fowler was surprised by the flyer and is now pushing for laws to stop false endorsements.  13News Now
  • Starting in October, the city will improve 17th Street in the Vibe District at the Oceanfront with new water and sewer lines, traffic and pedestrian signals, bike lanes, and wider sidewalks and lanes; the four-phase project (lasting three and a half years) may cause lane closures that affect local traffic. Local business owners hope the planned work will open the street and make the area safer for residents and visitors.  WTKR
  • The Virginia Beach Correctional Center’s Inmate Kitchen was renovated for $457,000 last month, updating a 20-year-old facility that prepares about 1.3 million meals a year—this upgrade is part of the Capital Improvement Plan. Inmate Ottis Smith, set to be released in about 60 days, said his food prep training has given him new hope for life after incarceration.  13News Now
