COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Virginia Beach is hosting the 2025 NAS Oceana Air Show this weekend to celebrate 250 Years of America's Navy with performances from the Blue Angels, F-22 Raptor Demo Team, and NAS Oceana Super Hornets. Gates open at 8 a.m. and the show starts at 10 a.m., while Beach Blast brings live music on Saturday night—plan ahead for heavy traffic on London Bridge Road.  13News Now

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Federal records show that ICE detainers increased 180% in Hampton Roads in the first seven months of 2025 with 393 detainers compared to 140 last year. Forty Virginia National Guard members were mobilized on Sept. 15 to support ICE with administrative tasks—additional personnel may join up to 60 and support the mission through Nov. 15.  13News Now
  • Virginia voters in Hampton Roads cast their early ballots Friday as over 250 Norfolk residents voted while officials verified voter files and mailed absentee ballots—City Hall and two Saturday sites remain open for early voting.  WTKR
  • Candidates Winsome Earle-Sears and Abigail Spanberger gave their plans to support law enforcement in Virginia Beach on Wednesday. Earle-Sears promised tax breaks for sheriffs and said she would veto bills that lower qualified immunity—while Spanberger said she would work with all groups to aid officers.  13News Now
  • Early voting for the 2025 elections began in Virginia as several Norfolk residents visited City Hall on Friday to cast ballots for governor, lieutenant governor, attorney general, and local races — over 300 people voted in-person in Norfolk. Voters will continue to cast ballots 45 days before Election Day on November 4 to shape the state’s leadership.  13News Now

HEALTH NEWS

  • Christina Hornyak, a 32-year-old patient safety coordinator from Suffolk, was rushed to the hospital when a urinary tract infection progressed to deadly sepsis and she now warns that even healthy people can fall seriously ill. She spent a week in hospital and urged everyone to know their normal signs – her experience reinforces the need for prompt care during infections.  WTKR
