🎓 Education
A group of Virginia Wesleyan University alumni is boycotting the planned name change to Batten University by organizing an alternative celebration—No Home Homecoming—during homecoming week.
They will hold a rally at the campus entrance on Saturday at noon while the new name is set to take effect next July.

The Virginia Beach Fire Department warned residents today about the fire risks of lithium-ion batteries ahead of National Fire Prevention Week and stressed that unattended charging can lead to dangerous fires.
Fire Captain Kevin Lehlbach, who led a demonstration yesterday, said using certified products and watching batteries closely—especially when stored in sheds—can help prevent fire damage.

Kristi Benson has secured new care for her 87-year-old mother with dementia as Princess Anne Health + Rehabilitation Center, which will close on Oct.
5 after losing its certification, prepares to shut down. She said her search uncovered poor conditions at many facilities and hopes increased nursing home funding will help improve care.
