🏛️ Government
On Tuesday, the Virginia Beach Sheriff's Office held its third job fair at the city's correctional center where 72 inmates nearing the end of their sentences met with 15 local employers + career specialists to boost their job search.
Sheriff Rocky Holcomb said the event is part of broader efforts including GED programs and vocational training to reduce recidivism.
🏥 Health
Virginia Beach paramedic Bailey Hartley made the COLT Kit— a box of sensory tools such as noise-canceling headphones, sunglasses, fidget spinners, and a board— to help first responders talk with people upset by loud sirens and bright lights.
She created the kit after noticing a gap in care for those with special needs and EMS has already used it in emergencies.
