- ➤ Virginia Beach residents will join LifeNet Health’s Race for Hope on Saturday, October 11 at 8 a.m.—an event raising funds for organ donation awareness and support to donor families. Virginia Beach mother Vivian Hoover recalled that her daughter Brittany donated four major organs before passing, hoping her story inspires others to register as organ donors. WTKR

- ➤ Business leaders from the Virginia Business Higher Education Council released the Impact Agenda report—urging colleges and the General Assembly to fund paid internships for every undergraduate student. - ➤ Nami Nori, a sushi restaurant partnered with Pharrell Williams, will open this weekend in Atlantic Park at 1892 Pacific Avenue—offering open-style temaki, signature rolls and an exclusive spicy crab dip for local diners. - ➤ Dozens of schools in Hampton Roads will receive part of a $12M security grant from the Virginia Department of Education to upgrade emergency communication and surveillance systems—Virginia Beach schools share a $114,000 award and Newport News schools share nearly $250,000. WTKR

- ➤ Virginia Beach resident Nicole Hall, who was 41 when she was diagnosed with kidney cancer in May, later battled two types of breast cancer and thyroid cancer before becoming cancer-free, and she now urges others to get early screenings — sharing her journey at Buff's Garden to help save lives. 13News Now
- ➤ Virginia is facing a growing shortage of dental hygienists, with fewer than 150 new graduates each year from six community college programs leaving practices in Hampton Roads to book cleanings nearly a year out — dentists are now handling tasks usually done by hygienists.
