- ➤ Virginia Zoo said its 21-year-old siamang, Bali, died on October 31st after his energy dropped quickly and he received an emergency vet exam—results from necropsy and histopathology are pending. Bali, born in England and at the zoo since 2010, was a caring father to his four offspring and a devoted mate to Malana. WTKR
- ➤ Kimberly Wright has set up a curbside pantry on Whitewood Lane in Kempsville—stocked with food, diapers and hygiene products—to help neighbors amid the government shutdown; locals can take or leave items as needed. 13News Now
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Virginia Beach School Board voted 9-1 on Monday to keep the dual language immersion program by consolidating it at Virginia Beach Middle School due to staffing and program concerns. About 125 middle school students will finish the current program while future transfers begin in 2027 (details will be shared next August). 13News Now

- ➤ City officials cited nearly 100 Oceanfront businesses for breaking sign rules meant to keep Atlantic Avenue neat; one store, Memory Lane Old Time Photos, had to cover murals painted in 2023 by a local artist. Owner Joey Funaro said the change might cost him about $6,000 — his case is part of a crackdown that will continue as officials review the signage rules. WTKR
