At Naval Air Station Oceana's 2025 air show, longtime friends Lynne Shepard and Barbie Lecaroz reunited when Lecaroz, a Chesterfield woman with lung cancer, fulfilled her bucket list wish to see the Blue Angels perform.

Shepard drove from Aberdeen, Maryland to Chesterfield to bring her to Virginia Beach and mark an unforgettable moment that strengthened their decades-long bond.

Virginia voters will choose a new governor and other state and local officials on November 4 in an election that features Rep. Abigail Spanberger against Lt. Gov. Winsome Earle-Sears and includes Virginia Beach contests such as Commonwealth’s Attorney, Sheriff, and a city charter referendum — early voting began on September 19 and voters have until October 24 to update their registration.
